Motherhood - Mother Earth

summer 2024

These works emerged from a deeply personal and symbolic exploration of the desire for motherhood, intertwined with references to Mother Earth and the womb as a universal, generative space. The paintings engage with the womb not only as a biological site, but as an archetypal and earthly interior: a place of darkness, gestation, transformation, and potential.

In these works, the body and the landscape become closely connected. The womb is echoed in caves, soil, cavities, and fertile ground — spaces that hold, nurture, and give rise to new life. Through this merging of bodily and earthly imagery, the paintings explore fertility as both a physical and spiritual condition, and motherhood as a layered field of longing, imagination, and becoming.

The desire for motherhood is approached not as a fixed narrative, but as an open, evolving state: a space of waiting, hope, uncertainty, and creative force. By situating this desire within the wider context of Mother Earth, the work expands the personal into the archetypal, framing the womb as a site where individual experience meets collective, ancient symbolism.

Within this body of work, the womb is understood as a threshold — a liminal space between inside and outside, darkness and emergence, potential and manifestation. Painting itself becomes a gestational process: a slow, attentive practice through which images, meanings, and futures are allowed to come into being.
